I think the character Mrs.Cheevy is drawn from the fact the Mary lou and alex are now boy friend and girl friend. She seems to be added to the minor characters now because you hear about her as much as you do for Mary Lou's brothers. They talk about her as a little nutty and wierd but loving. I think the authers aditude to Carl Ray was bad but now it seems its getting better. The auther wants people to see there is a emotion side to Carl ray. Before carl ray seemed really moody and didnt care about anything. Then later on you could tell he was hiding something very interesting because he was so secretive. The end of the book it shows that carl ray actually has a lot emotion and has a lot of depth to him. I think all the characters that have been there since the start have all gotten to become three dementional. the big change from the begining is about Mr. Furtz because at the begining he was just someone you heard about who died. Then later on he became more threee dementional when he was the father of carl ray and tried to keep tutch with him. All the other character that werent there from the begining are still more flat and only have way of seeing things. There was deffenitlly a lot of development within the characters. Before mary lou was very simple minding, she only thought something could be one way. the journal she was writing really made her think about what was going on. The character develpment for her made her more confident of herself. I think beth ann became a tiny bit of a better person then before, before she was a little self center; now not as much. Carl ray development was so huge. He compleatly did a 360. I think the characters delineation was very derect. The auther wrote what she wanted to get through. She wrote that alex was mary lous sweetie and beth ann was kind of mean. Carl ray was a mystery.
I agree with you when you say that the author's attitude towards Carl Ray has improved Drastically. He has been acting the same the whole time but the author wasn't showing everything about him. Now, though she shows him n a whole new light. Only Now at the end of the book does she show that every little weird thing that Carl Ray does has a meaning for it. One of the Major Ways that the author explains Carl Ray's actions is when Mary Lou goes to West Virginia. Because, then she is the guest and she does all those things too. Also she feels left out and un- needed. Any Way I think that that analization was brilliant, Alexis WAY TO GO GIRL!!!
I think some intellectual qualities are: very simple and very clear. You know whats going on at all times and you are never confused. She did a very good job with making her work understandable. Some emotional qualities in this writing are: funny and smart. She knows how a young girl would feel in the situations and she implies this in her writing. Its also funny. ML is a funny girl and the author is doing a good job with this. I think the aesthetic quality is that its rythmatic yet very messed up. Her life is a mess, ML, but its a organized mess as I like to call it. All these issues in the begining of the book all make sence at the ende. the author uses a lot of "hyperbole" in the novel. ML does this a lot. Like for instance she sais "oh Lord" ect.. This diologue is VERY effective! She did a very good job with this book and i am going to use her writing to an advantage. Like how to watch what you say, and to use different words and expand my vocabulary, as ML has to do in the book. She has to use a theasaurus for different words for words like "G-d" and "Stuff" and "Stupid". And she uses these words through out the book.
In this reading section there is closure. The various elements of plot that have been displayed thus far have only been leading up to this, the grand finale. However I feel it wasn't much of a finale, it offered closure and it doesn't leave the reader hanging in suspense but nothing major happens. Everything is resolved or at least dealt with but it's a kind of predictable ending. Not what happened in particular but the genre of ending which was subtle.
Plot to character delineation is direct. The characters and plot mature at the same speed. Accident is definitely employed as a resolving force. It also makes the plot a lot more interesting. I think that if there was no accident the book would have been a lot more boring.
There are many different plot resolution and complication. The best of which (in my opinion) is when Mary Lou somehow extracts a solution from the Odyssey . Now, at the end of the book the sub plot (Beth Anne) has disappeared. Only to re-appear in the main plot. Everything is related now, and it is much to hard to separate the different plots. Everything is intertwined now. Throughout the book the plot has been primary compared to the other elements of the writing. I think that this was a pretty good ending to a pretty good book.
i agree with you sami. Mary lou is has a very organizesd life but it is a mess with everything she has been doing. Great job sami Talia i also agree with when you said there was so much plot to wotrk with and it was i tiny bit comfusing i though. Great work too talia
i agree with sami how the author did a great job expressing what things are happening and showing us how Mary Lou a young girl thinks. i don't agree that sami said if there was no accidents in the book the book would be a lot more boring. I agree that the dialogue was effective because we always understood what was happening. I don't agree with this because i don't think there were that many accidents. i agree that this book will help people in real life.
I think the intellectual qualities are very clear because we never are confused about what is happening. But the Intellectual qualities are not simple because sometimes something happens at the beginning of the story and you don't hear about them for a will and then suddenly they come up again. Also sometimes MAry Lou doesn't know exactly what she thinks so that shows that the intellectual qualities are not simple.
I think the emotional qualities are displayed well because when Mary LOu she is happy she rights a lot unless she was with alex because her " brain is mush". When something bad happens Marry Lou doesn't right that much. For example when Mr. Furtz died and when Carl Ray went to the hospital Mary Lou didn't right very much.
The writing takes the ascetic form of young girl telling about her life. The good things and the bad things. I think a lot of hyperbole is in the story because Mary Lou says after she has been with Alex " my brain is mush". I think the dialogue is very effective because even though this is a journal we always know what is going on.
I think this was a very good book. I am really glad i read it. Good job at the blog Sami Alexis and Talia.
